BACK TO SCHOOL: Johnson and Tioga students can meet their teachers August 16
The first day of classes in Bensenville School District 2 is Wednesday, August 17. Before classes convene, students attending W.A. Johnson and Tioga Schools will be able to meet their teachers on Tuesday, August 16.

BLAST-OFF: BMS students can walk their schedules and set up their lockers on Saturday, August 13
During Blast-Off, you will be able to walk your schedule, tour the building, set up your locker, and start the connection!

HERE TO HELP: Connect with local service providers at BSD2 Community Resource Fair
The BSD2 Community Resource Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, August 20, at Blackhawk Middle School, and it will bring together a wide variety of local community service providers who will share the helpful resources they have to offer to BSD2 residents.

The District's protocols may change based on executive orders or future guidance from the health department.

STUDENT MEALS: Set up payments or apply for free or reduced-price program
All students were eligible last year for free meals under a federal COVID response program. This year, free or reduced-price meals will be available ONLY to qualifying students, the same as before COVID.

HEALTHY START: Complete your child’s health exam and immunization records by August 19
The submission deadline is August 19 instead of October 15 as in the past, so that everyone can be protected at the start of the year. Students who do not provide the required immunization and/or exam records by August 19 will be excluded from school.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES: District 2 will continue to provide them for students this year
The District will supply all school supplies except for gym clothes, backpacks, and calculators during the 2022-2023 school year. All supplies will be distributed to the classrooms before students arrive.

SIGN UP FOR SHIELD: Weekly COVID screening program returning for 2022-2023 school year
The SHIELD Illinois’ free saliva-based COVID screening program is set to return to all BSD2 schools this year. Enrollment is now open, and all students and staff are invited to participate in the program.

NEW TEACHERS CONTRACT: Five-year agreement increases compensation while fitting within the budget
The Bensenville School District 2 Board of Education has approved a five-year contract with the Bensenville Education Association (BEA), the union representing the District’s 200-plus teachers. By fitting within the District’s budget, the new contract honors the interests of taxpayers while increasing teachers’ compensation to a more competitive level.

ONWARD & UPWARD Blackhawk's eighth graders are ready to head to high school
Blackhawk Middle School’s eighth graders celebrated the completion of their District 2 careers during their promotion ceremony held May 26 at Fenton High School. Among the more than 230 eighth graders who participated in the ceremony, nine students were recognized with special awards.

END-OF-YEAR HONORS: BSD2 Board celebrates staff achievements
During its May 18 meeting, the BSD2 Board of Education recognized the District's retirees and teachers who earned tenure this year, and it named the newest recipients of the District's Founders Award.

On May 17, District 2 celebrated a quarter century of Project CARE -- 25 years and hundreds of mentors volunteering to help BSD2 students refine skills they’ve been taught by their classroom teachers!

Big ideas earned big checks during the District's first Young Entrepreneurial Student (YES!) Pitch Contest, held May 13 at Blackhawk Middle School.

ON AIR: New Podcast Club captures life at Blackhawk
The new club formed this spring and produced an introductory podcast and two episodes by the year's end. Check them out and hear students review their favorite anime, music, and games, conduct interviews with their classmates, and put special guest teachers on the “hot seat.”

NEW SUPERINTENDENT: BSD2 Board names Dr. Katie McCluskey the District’s new leader
Dr. McCluskey has served as the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching, Learning, and Accountability for Glen Ellyn District 41 since July 2017. She will begin her work in District 2 on July 1, 2022.
