IMPORTANT DATES:
Tuesday, August 16 “Meet the Teacher” for Grades K - 5
2:30-3:00 pm - Families whose last name begins with A-K

Tuesday, August 23 “Curriculum Night “ for Grades K-5
Session 1 - 5:30 pm - 6:00 pm - Families whose last name starts with A-K

Our First Day of School is Wednesday, August 17
Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade will meet their teachers on the blacktop by the cafeteria. The 3rd , 4th, and 5th grade will meet their teachers in the gymnasium. All students should be in their class line by 8:30 AM.
School Hours:
Students may enter the building starting at 8:05 am daily.
8:40 am - 3:20 pm (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday)
8:40 am - 2:25 pm (Tuesday)
School Supplies: Once again, BSD2 will provide students with all needed school supplies, except for a backpack and gym shoes. Please make sure both items are labeled with your child’s name.
Bus Transportation: If you live more than 1.5 miles from school, or live in a hazard area, your child is automatically assigned to a bus. If you prefer to transport your child to and from school, you must fill out a “No Bus” form that can be obtained from our front office.
Traffic Plan: Please remember that the procedures established at drop-off and pick-up times are to ensure the safety of everyone, especially our children. Please refer to the Attached map and directions.

HERE TO HELP: Connect with local service providers at BSD2 Community Resource Fair
The BSD2 Community Resource Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, August 20, at Blackhawk Middle School, and it will bring together a wide variety of local community service providers who will share the helpful resources they have to offer to BSD2 residents.

STUDENT MEALS: Set up payments or apply for free or reduced-price program
All students were eligible last year for free meals under a federal COVID response program. This year, free or reduced-price meals will be available ONLY to qualifying students, the same as before COVID.

HEALTHY START: Complete your child’s health exam and immunization records by August 19
The submission deadline is August 19 instead of October 15 as in the past, so that everyone can be protected at the start of the year. Students who do not provide the required immunization and/or exam records by August 19 will be excluded from school.

SIGN UP FOR SHIELD: Weekly COVID screening program returning for 2022-2023 school year
The SHIELD Illinois’ free saliva-based COVID screening program is set to return to all BSD2 schools this year. Enrollment is now open, and all students and staff are invited to participate in the program.

NEW TEACHERS CONTRACT: Five-year agreement increases compensation while fitting within the budget
The Bensenville School District 2 Board of Education has approved a five-year contract with the Bensenville Education Association (BEA), the union representing the District’s 200-plus teachers. By fitting within the District’s budget, the new contract honors the interests of taxpayers while increasing teachers’ compensation to a more competitive level.

During its May 18 meeting, the BSD2 Board of Education recognized the District's retirees and teachers who earned tenure this year, and it named the newest recipients of the District's Founders Award.

NEW SUPERINTENDENT: BSD2 Board names Dr. Katie McCluskey the District’s new leader
Dr. McCluskey has served as the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching, Learning, and Accountability for Glen Ellyn District 41 since July 2017. She will begin her work in District 2 on July 1, 2022.

POWERSCHOOL: Everyone will benefit from the District’s new student information system
PowerSchool supports more than 45 million students globally, including those at Fenton High School. Its user-friendly interface makes it a much easier system to navigate for all users, particularly parents, and its numerous customized reports will help the District identify trends and measure their impact in areas such as attendance, discipline, and grading.

ALL ABOARD: Keeping up with the BSD2 Board of Education is easier than ever now
BSD2 Board of Education meetings have always been open to the public, and the materials Board members review in those meetings are always public documents, available to anyone upon request. Now, though,it is easier than ever for District 2 parents, staff and residents to keep up with the BSD2 Board. No need to attend meetings in person. No need to request copies of the Board’s agenda packets.

FREE DEVELOPMENTAL SCREENING: Nobody knows your child better than you
Bensenville School District 2 will conduct free developmental screenings for children ages 2-5 on Thursday and Friday, April 28 and 29. These screenings are the first step in identifying children for our Preschool for All program and/or Head Start. Call the Tioga School office at 630-766-2602 ext. 4200 to schedule an appointment for your child’s screening.
